HAVANA – President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez, and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Việt Nam Nguyễn Đức Hải co-chaired the first session of the Việt Nam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Havana on September 24.

The two sides reaffirmed their determination to support and further strengthen the special traditional solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between Việt Nam and Cuba, while highlighting the important role of parliamentary cooperation in consolidating and further promoting the special solidarity between the two nations.

Representatives of the two legislative bodies listened to reports on bilateral cooperation, while proposing solutions and recommended amendments and supplements to policies and laws to help address difficulties and obstacles, towards enhancing the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, especially in economy, finance, trade, and investment.

Delegates exchanged opinions and shared experiences in building and perfecting policies and laws with a view to promoting bilateral cooperation in the areas of economy, finance, investment, energy, science, technology, and health, tailored to the conditions and circumstances of each country. They also reviewed the results that were achieved and proposed measures to improve the effectiveness of the implementation of the signed cooperation agreements between the two nations. 

The two sides underlined the need to expand inter-parliamentary ties between Việt Nam and Cuba and agreed to strengthen close coordination both bilaterally and in international and regional forums and enhance the capacity of coordinating and monitoring to effectively implement the cooperation documents signed between the two countries. 

Hải took the occasion to convey an invitation from Vietnamese NA Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn to his Cuban counterpart Esteban Lazo Hernandez, to attend the second session of the Việt Nam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Việt Nam. VNS
