TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Media OutReach - July 26 2018 - Appier, a leading artificialintelligence (AI) company, announced the appointment of its first ChiefArtificial Intelligence Scientist, Dr. Min Sun. In this new role, Dr. Sun willfocus on building scalable AI systems for Appier's range of enterprise solutions,in close collaboration with Dr. Hsuan-Tien Lin, Appier's Chief Data Scientist.

Dr. Sun joins the company from National Tsing Hua University(NTHU), where he served as Assistant Professor inthe Department of Electrical Engineering. He is a well-known figure amongAsia's AI community, having worked under some of the most influential AIleaders, including Andrew Ng, Fei-Fei Li and Silvio Savarese. He contributedcrowdsourcing ideas to the revolutionary ImageNet project led by Fei-Fei Li in2009, and he is also an early contributor to the Robot Operating System (ROS)and Microsoft Kinect's human pose estimation system.

Dr. Sun holds 2 U.S. patents. In 2017, he led a summerresearch project featuring creativity in AI with Appier, which was subsequentlyaccepted by the prestigious AAAI 2018. In the past three years, he haspublished 22 research papers in the top AI conferences.

Some of Dr. Sun's research interests include computervision, natural language processing, deep learning, and reinforcement learning.From 2015 to 2017, he won the CVGIP Best Paper Awards three times in a row. Heis also the latest recipient of the Creative Young Scholar Award from theFoundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship in Taiwan.

Dr. Sun received his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering: Systemfrom the University of Michigan and his M.S in Electrical Engineering from StanfordUniversity.
