HÀ NỘI — Đắc Lắk Museum in the Central Highlands Province of Đắk Lắk held a ceremony receiving artefacts and opening an exhibition to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the victory of Buôn Ma Thuột City.

More than 800 artefacts were presented by five collectors from the central and northern provinces and cities of Bình Thuận, Cần Thơ, Bến Tre and HCM City.

"These documents and exhibits have great historical and cultural value, which is a testament to the development of Vietnamese culture from the ancient past to the present," said Đinh Một, director of Đắc Lắc Museum at the ceremony on March 8.

"We are pleased to receive exhibits and documents from organisations and individuals so that more valuable collections and meaningful stories are shared and introduced widely to the public."

The museum has a whole collection on the Đông Sơn, Sa Huỳnh and Óc Eo cultures – the three ancient cultures of Việt Nam – thanks to donations including a noteworthy money collection from the reigns of kings Minh Mạng (1791-1841); Thiệu Trị (1841-1847) and Tự Đức (1847-1883).

The five collectors are Nguyễn Ngọc Ẩn, Nguyễn Tấn Ngọc, Nguyễn An, Lâm Tấn Bình and Đặng Văn Thuận. They were also honoured by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the ceremony.

"I read newspapers and know that students got bad scores in history at the national examinations," said collector Ẩn, from the central province of Bình Thuận.

"I want to donate historical artefacts to museums throughout the country, especially to the universities and the colleges aiming at inspiring students to learn history."

Ẩn started donating documents and artefacts in 2014 to 29 units with thousands of exhibits in provinces and cities across the country. He is preparing to establish a private museum to teach people about culture and promote tourism.

At the ceremony, Ẩn donated about 500 exhibits and documents including pottery, accessories and household utensils.

The donated exhibits are displayed at the museum to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the victory of Buôn Mê Thuột City Victory in Đắk Lắk Province on March 10, 1975. — VNS
