BẮC GIANG — The Worker’s Market programme, now in its eighth year, attracted many workers from industrial zones across Bắc Giang Province.

The programme aligns with the 'Vietnamese People Give Priority to Vietnamese Goods' campaign and features the themes 'Vietnamese Goods Festival' and 'Essence of Vietnamese Goods - Pride of Vietnamese Goods'.

Held at Thân Nhân Trung Square, the programme was jointly organised by the Bắc Giang Labour Federation, the Goods' Steering Committee and the People’s Committee of Việt Yên Town.

In his opening speech, Lê Đức Thọ, Vice Chairman of the Bắc Giang Labour Federation, highlighted the province’s efforts to improve the material and spiritual well-being of union members and workers.

Since 2017, the provincial Labour Federation has signed cooperation agreements with over 52 organisations and businesses both within and outside the province to support this benefits programme. Over the past eight years, more than 300,000 union members and workers have accessed discounted goods and services, with total savings nearing VNĐ20 billion (US$787,000).

This year’s Market event provided union members and workers with opportunities to purchase high-quality goods and services at reduced prices, while also participating in cultural and recreational activities. The initiative supports workers and aligns with the Benefits Programme for Union Members.

Participants enjoyed discounts of ten per cent or more on essential products and services across 70 booths from 35 businesses. Additionally, 23 companies sponsored 'Zero đồng' booths with complimentary gifts for workers, valued at over VNĐ300 million in total.

In addition to discounted sales, union members and workers engaged in various cultural and sports activities, including a flower arranging competition, a folk-dance contest, a workers' singing competition and a tug-of-war competition, along with taking part in prize draws.

This time around, the Bắc Giang Labour Federation recognised 95 exemplary worker-friendly businesses and five partners who have successfully implemented the Union Members Benefits scheme. The federation also allocated funds from the Union Shelter Fund to help build homes for nine members whose houses were damaged by Typhoon Yagi and provided gifts to 140 workers in difficult circumstances. — VNS
