HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam came from behind to beat Ji Hoon Son of South Korea in the first round of the Việt Nam F2 Futures tennis tournament held in Huế yesterday.

The No 1 seed and world No 461 defeated Ji, world No 839, 3-6, 7-5 and 6-0.

The 21-year-old Nam will next face Rio Noguchi of Japan, world No 923, who lost to Nam twice in recent meets.

Earlier, Tây Ninh-born Nam was the runner-up in the men’s singles category of the F1 Futures tennis tournament. Nam and his senior partner, Lê Quốc Khánh, also earned the silver medal in the doubles event.

Nam aims to take the trophy of the Futures series for the third time on home soil. — VNS
