HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Võ Thanh Tùng brought home a bronze medal from the World Para Swimming Championship in Mexico on Saturday.

He came third in the men’s S5 100m, with a time of 1min 19.56sec.

Brazilian Daniel Dias won the gold, clocking 1:10.58 and Theo Curin of France came second, with a time of 1:18.28.

Việt Nam Team manager, Hồ Thanh My, said it was not Tùng’s favourite event. He was a master in the 50m categories, which will be organised in the next few days. She hoped that the 2016 Paralympic silver medalist would do better today and tomorrow.

Other swimmers from Việt Nam were Trịnh Thị Bích Như (women’s SB5 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle) and Nguyễn Thành Trung (men’s S5 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke).

Như had won a bronze medal at the world championship in 2015 in Glasgow, Scotland. — VNS
