HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Văn Phương of Việt Nam advanced to the quarter-finals of the ITF Junior Circuit – HCM City yesterday.

The No 3 seed beat Amaury Raynel of France 6-2, 6-1 in the first round and Wen Guanglin of China in the second.

He will next face No 7 Manuel Balce of the Philippines.

Phương is the only Vietnamese left in the boys’ singles category. Eleven players of the hosts were eliminated after the first two rounds.

In the girls’ pool, there are no Vietnamese left.

Phương and his partner Huỳnh Thịnh will compete in the quarter-finals against Lu Pengyu and Wen Guanglin of China today.

Phương also pairs with China’s Wen Ciao Ying of Chinese Taipei in the mixed doubles. They will meet No 4 seed Li Zongyu and Wang Jingyi of China in the quarter-finals. — VNS
