HCM CITY — Thủ Đức City and all 21 districts in HCM City have completed preparations for elections to the National Assembly and people's councils for the 2021-26 term, according to HCM City Election Commission.
With more than 5.4 million voters, the largest number in the country, the city has set up more than 3,000 polling booths and 3,092 election teams.
The Election Commission has announced plans for how voters can cast their ballots amid the COVID-19 outbreak, including those quarantined at home, living in areas under quarantine and lockdown and admitted to healthcare facilities.
Thái Mỹ Diện, deputy chairwoman of the Thủ Đức City People’s Council, said preparations for the election are complete at all 34 wards in Thủ Đức.
Safety measures are mandatory at all polling stations, including disinfection of hands, checking body temperatures, face masks, keeping social distance, and health declaration, he said.
The outlying district of Cần Giờ has set up 46 polling stations.
Nguyễn Văn Hồng, chairman of its People’s Committee, said the voting time for each residential area would be regulated to avoid crowds.
Local authorities would co-ordinate with the city border guards to transport the ballots from polling stations in the district’s Thạnh An Island by boats, he added. — VNS
