QUẢNG NAM — Thirty fishermen have been rescued after their vessel sank in waters off the Trường Sa (Spratly) archipelago.
According to initial information, the ship from the central province of Quảng Nam encountered difficulties while fishing around the Trường Sa Archipelago due to strong winds. The ship had 31 crew members on board, with Tô Điệp, 40, as the captain. They were about 240 miles off Vũng Tàu and 210 miles off Côn Đảo when the boat sank.
Thirty fishermen managed to climb on conical boats, while one man named Nguyễn Hồng Minh, 45, is reportedly still missing.
A ship from Maritime Region 2 brought the fishermen to the DK1/11 platform. All of them are in a stable condition.
Local authorities are reportedly in contact with the Border Guard of Quảng Nam to bring the stranded fishermen to the mainland while searches for the missing man continued. — VNS
