NAM ĐỊNH — Police on Thursday arrested two officials for their involvement in illegal land deals in Nam Định Province, raising the number of arrested officials to six.
Ngô Văn Chiến, deputy chairman of the Yên Tiến Commune People’s Committee, and Trương Quang Việt, deputy party secretary of Yên Tiến Commune’s Đông Thịnh Village, were arrested for alleged abuse of power, said the local police.
The case was brought to light early last year when the People’s Committee of Ý Yên District ordered an official investigation into the repeated complaints of Đông Thịnh villagers accusing several local officials of mishandling and illegally selling thousands of square metres of land for profit.
In September 2017, the Ý Yên police arrested three officers of Đông Thịnh Village, including Đinh Công Hiên, the village party secretary; Bùi Công Môn, the village chief; and Đinh Văn Thao, head of the service division of a State-owned agriculture cooperative.
The police arrested another official named Đinh Văn Lới in December last year.
All have been charged with abuse of power.
The matter is being further investigated. — VNS
