HÀ NỘI — A free online e-learning platform dedicated to childcare and nutrition named Little Sun was upgraded and relaunched on Thursday.

In the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yagi, the platform, which was launched by Institute of Nutrition and the social enterprise SSVN Survival Skills, has provided crucial support when in-person learning and counseling are limited due to damaged infrastructure.

Its courses cover key topics such as maternal care during pregnancy and breastfeeding, complementary feeding, care for sick children and assessing children's nutritional status.

Based on the Ministry of Health’s child nutrition guidelines, the platform offers 20 in-depth lessons on child nutrition and counseling skills for both parents and caregivers, as well as health staff seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in nutrition and health counseling, with the opportunity to achieve certification.

Hồ Thái Bình, SSVN director, said “The Little Sun e-learning platform on childcare and nutrition, developed by SSVN, is designed to be user-friendly and accessible, allowing users to learn anytime, anywhere, with an intuitive interface available on both computers and phones.”

Associate Professor Dr. Trương Tuyết Mai, deputy director of the National Institute of Nutrition said the institution is partnering with localities to implement models that enhance nutrition for children under five and address stunting and wasting. Despite these efforts, provinces encounter difficulties in choosing cost-effective strategies to reach these goals.

The Little Sun child nutrition counseling model and its online learning platform offer valuable resources that can help localities navigate these challenges effectively, she said. 

At the launch event, healthcare staff from provincial centres for disease control across 63 localities, along with caregivers and mothers, highly praised the effectiveness and quality of the online training system.

Within just two hours of the launch, nearly 300 people registered for the course through the website. — VNS
