HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội will implement strict monitoring and early detection of infectious disease cases in the community to understand the epidemic situation and organise timely investigation and management of cases and outbreaks.

On August 5, the Hà Nội Centres for Disease Control (CDC) reported that during the week, the Hà Nội CDC carried out environmental sanitation and disease prevention monitoring in the flood-affected districts and communes of Chương Mỹ, Quốc Oai and Mỹ Đức.

Households in the flooded areas are regularly cleaning their local environment, with efforts proceeding as the water recedes. Waste is being collected and transported by public services throughout the week.

Local authorities have organised 27 environmental sanitation campaigns, inspected disease prevention measures in 102,111 households and 777 other areas such as schools and public places and addressed 12,190 containers of standing water with mosquito larvae.

In the past week, the city recorded 171 cases of dengue fever, with no deaths reported. Patients are distributed across 23 districts, with higher numbers in Đan Phượng, Hà Đông, Thạch Thất, and Phúc Thọ.

Notably, areas with higher dengue fever cases include Phương Đình, Đồng Tháp, and Tân Hội communes in Đan Phượng District; Dương Nội Ward in Hà Đông District; Hữu Bằng Commune in Thạch Thất District; and Hiệp Thuận Commune in Phúc Thọ District. Since the beginning of 2024, the city has recorded 1,579 cases of dengue fever with no deaths.

Last week, Hà Nội also reported eight new dengue fever outbreaks in Đan Phượng, Phúc Thọ, Bắc Từ Liêm, Thạch Thất and Quốc Oai districts, which is a reduction of two outbreaks compared to the previous week. Cumulatively, in 2024, the city has recorded 57 outbreaks, with 20 still active.

The Hà Nội CDC has deployed an emergency response team to collaborate with relevant units in monitoring and managing dengue fever outbreaks at five locations: Village 5 in Phúc Thọ District; Village 7 and 8 in Đan Phượng District; Ích Vịnh Village in Đan Phượng District; Đại Kim Area in Phú Xuyên District; and Alley 80 Nhân Hòa Street in Thanh Xuân District.

In the past week, Hà Nội recorded 40 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, with no deaths reported, an increase of 12 cases from the previous week. Cumulatively, in 2024, the city has recorded 1,749 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease with no deaths.

The city reported two outbreaks in Đông Anh and Hoàng Mai districts last week. So far in 2024, there have been 41 outbreaks, with two still active.

Hà Nội recorded 10 cases of whooping cough with no deaths, an increase of three cases from the previous week. In 2024, the city has recorded 210 cases across 29 districts, with no deaths. Cases are mainly among young children who have not yet received vaccinations or are not fully vaccinated.

Additionally, from July 25 to July 30, Sóc Sơn District recorded three rabies outbreaks in dogs across three communes of Minh Phú, Hiền Ninh and Thanh Xuân.

There were ten people exposed to the rabid dogs. These cases have been treated, advised to receive rabies vaccinations and monitored according to regulations.

The Hà Nội CDC has noted that rabies in animals is becoming increasingly complex. This week, three additional rabies outbreaks in dogs were recorded in Sóc Sơn District, bringing the total number of rabies outbreaks in dogs in the district to six for 2024.

The city also reported one case of Streptococcus suis infection in Quốc Oai District. Other diseases were not reported this week.

The Department of Health said it had intensified its communication efforts, providing timely and comprehensive information on disease outbreaks and preventive measures for hand, foot and mouth disease, whooping cough, chickenpox, measles and rubella, as well as zoonotic diseases like rabies and Streptococcus suis. Based on this, the health sector advised parents to ensure that their children receive vaccinations on schedule.

Additionally, Hà Nội had also enhanced its health quarantine measures at Nội Bài International Airport to promptly detect and address any suspected cases of disease. — VNS
