ĐIỆN BIÊN — A preview of a grand military parade in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024) was held at the stadium of the northwestern province of Điện Biên on Friday.

Held by the Central Steering Committee for the commemoration of major holidays and important historical events of the country in the 2023-25 period, the parade will see the participation of more than 12,000 people, including those from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, and Điện Biên Province.

It will be the highlight among a series of activities to mark the anniversary, contributing to affirming the significance, stature, and historical value of the victory and the continuous development and growth of the armed forces over the past 70 years under the Party's leadership.

After a period of training, all the participating forces have ensured the requirements of their assigned tasks.

Addressing the programme, Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education, highlighted the significance of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, saying that the celebration aims to revive and promote the patriotic tradition, the revolutionary heroism, the spirit of solidarity, the will to fight, and the determination to win in the cause of national construction and defence.

It is also to honour and express gratitude to the generations of Vietnamese people who have sacrificed and made significant contributions to the struggle for national liberation, he added.

Nghĩa, who is also vice head of the steering committee, asked for more thorough preparation and close coordination among agencies and units to fulfill their assigned tasks. — VNS
