LÀO CAI — A forest fire occurred at Hoàng Liên National Park in Séo Mý Tỷ Village, Tả Van Commune, Sa Pa Town, in the northern mountainous province of Lào Cai, as declared by the provincial authorities on Tuesday.
Previously, on Monday afternoon, the forest patrol force of the park’s management board discovered a fire in grass hills in the Nà Háng area, approximately 5km from the Séo Mý Tỷ Forest Ranger Station.
Immediately after discovering the fire, the forest managers informed the Tả Văn Commune People's Committee.
The committee assigned Séo Mý Tỷ Village’s militia and forest protection forces to assess and find ways to extinguish the fire.
By Monday evening, nearly 400 people came to support the work.
However, the fire is at an altitude of about 1,900m above sea level. Besides, the thick vegetation layer and strong winds created many obstacles for firefighting.
The fire spread over more than 10 hectares.
The area had a fire in 2012.
In recent days, wind from the Ô Quy Hồ mountain pass and dry weather in Sa Pa Town increased the forest fire alarm level in the area. — VNS
