ĐỒNG THÁP - The Organic Agriculture Development Project, sponsored by Seed To Table (a Japanese non-profit organisation that promotes eco-friendly agriculture), has been implemented at 20 schools in 10 districts and cities in Đồng Tháp province, helping students gain knowledge of organic agriculture.

The project, which has been implemented since 2019 until now, has built 20/20 houses covered with nets to grow organic vegetables, according to the Agricultural Service Center and Rural Clean Water of Đồng Tháp province.

While some schools grow legumes to improve soil and flowers to establish a vegetable garden ecosystem, others have grown and harvested vegetables to sell to teachers in the school and locals.

Each group of students reported research results on organic vegetable growing, including the growth of organic vegetables in different soil conditions; growth processes and growing techniques of mustard greens; planting of peanut trees to improve the soil; the growth of vegetables when changing the organic fertiliser content and awareness of organic agriculture.

Teachers have accompanied all students to implement the programme, helping them understand organic farming knowledge and form a sense of protecting the ecosystem and the environment.

In 2023, the project will be deployed in three more schools in the province, with all funding supported by Seed To Table (Japan). - VNS
