HÀ NỘI — Four police officers in Sóc Trăng Province’s Vĩnh Châu Town have been temporarily suspended after allegedly beating up two underage motorists.

Colonel Lâm Thành Sol, director of the provincial Police Department, confirmed the officers have been suspended while the case is under investigation.

A short video clip went viral on social media, showing two police officers violently beating two boys in front of a warehouse in Vĩnh Châu Town. Two other officers arrived later and were involved in the incident.

The department has reported the incident to the Ministry of Public Security and will punish the officers if they are found to have committed any wrongdoings.

According to initial reports, at 3pm on September 25, a traffic patrol team in Vĩnh Châu Town found a teenager driving a motorcycle carrying another boy on Nam Sông Hậu Expressway in Vĩnh Phước Ward.

Suspecting the rider was underage, the police attempted to stop the vehicle.

However, the boy sped up and attempted to outrun the police motorbikes for nearly 30 kilometres, passing through Nam Sông Hậu, Lê Lai, Trưng Nhị, April 30 Road, 43 District Road, and Nam Sông Hậu in Vĩnh Hải Commune where they were stopped in front of a warehouse by the police.

After a long chase, the officers attacked the boys who did not resist or fight back.

The act was caught on the warehouse’s surveillance camera.

The boys were then escorted to the communal police station, where they admitted their violation, including not obeying orders and instructions of traffic police, disobeying traffic lights, speeding, and riding a motorbike of over 100cc without driving licence. — VNS
