HCM CITY - HCM City will send the third batch of support packages to local residents in need between September 22 and October 4.

Vice chairman of HCM City People’s Committee Võ Văn Hoan has asked districts and Thủ Đức City to complete approval of the list of eligible residents by September 20.

The city Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs on September 15 said the number of people expected to be supported during the third batch would be more than 7.5 million.

As each person will receive VNĐ1 million, the estimated cost for the third batch will be more than VNĐ7,500 billion.

People who are eligible include labourers who have lost their jobs and income but are staying in HCM City, regardless of whether they are permanent residents.

Also included are relatives of workers who have lost their jobs, including father, mother, wife, husband or children; housewives; and ones without the ability to work and dependent people.

For people living temporarily in HCM City, authorities are required to set up teams to visit each area, and review and make a list of ones in need of support.

During the fourth outbreak, in addition to the VNĐ26,000 billion support package deployed nationwide, HCM City in early July began offering another VNĐ6,500billion to freelance workers. The city also provided locals with 14,000 tonnes of rice in the first phase and more than two billion bags of goods for people in need.

From May 31 until now, HCM City has applied many social distancing measures with increasing levels of strictness.

Currently, the city will continue to implement Directive 16 until the end of September and has piloted a reopening programme in districts 7, Củ Chi and Cần Giờ. - VNS
