HÀ NỘI — Country Director of the World Bank (WB) in Việt Nam Ousmane Dione has expressed his appreciation of the success Việt Nam, and Hà Nội in particular, have achieved in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a working session with Chairman of the Hà Nội People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Chung on Monday, Dione hailed Việt Nam for besting other developed countries in the fight against the outbreak.

He attributed the achievements to concerted efforts by the public and sound direction from authorities since the first infection was identified.

Dione expressed his deep gratitude for the WB's strong and trusted partnership with Hà Nội over the years. He also confirmed the World Bank’s strong commitment to continue supporting Hà Nội in urban mobility and wastewater and air quality management, which are critical for the city’s development.

Chung said that despite the negative impacts of COVID-19, Hà Nội’s economy still grew by 3.39 per cent in the first half of the year.
He told his guest the capital will hold an investment promotion conference on June 27, the first of its kind in Việt Nam since the pandemic was controlled.
The conference is expected to help the capital achieve the dual goal of COVID-19 prevention and control and socio-economic development, he said. — VNS
