HÀ NỘI — The third session of the National Assembly (NA) is scheduled to take place on May 22 and end on June 21, said Nguyễn Hạnh Phúc, Chairman of NA Office on Wednesday.
Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, NA Chairman said the NA Standing Committee will report to the NA on the dismissal of Võ Kim Cự, a deputy from Hà Tĩnh Province, where the Taiwanese steelmaker Formosa Hưng Nghiệp caused mass fish deaths last April by dumping polluted wastewater.
The NASC adopted a resolution on Cự’s dismissal by a majority vote during a closed meeting on Monday afternoon.
The 60-year-old NA deputy was found to have personally signed several illegal documents related to Formosa activities in Hà Tĩnh Province and was "mainly responsible for wrongdoings" from 2008-2016 that resulted in the largest-ever environmental disaster in Việt Nam.
At the request of many deputies and voters, the time for the question and answer session will be raised to 3 days instead of 2.5 days as usual, Ngân said.
During the session, a deputy Prime Minister, will answer questions raised by NA deputies and voters on behalf of the Government, she said. Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc may also attend and clarify some issues.
Preparations for the third session of the National Assembly have been basically completed, the chairman of NA Office Phúc said. — VNS
