HÀ NỘI — A concert to raise funds for underprivileged children will take place at Hà Nội Opera House on September 25.

It will feature Vietnamese and international musicians such as pianists Phạm Quỳnh Trang and Bokyung Lee, violinist Phạm Thị Tố Trinh and clarinet Vladimir Pavtchinskii.

The musicians will play a repertoire including Mozart’s Symphony No 40 and Đỗ Nhuận’s Du Kích Sông Thao (The Guerilla in Thao River).

Symphony No 40 will be performed by two pianos with eight hands as two performers will play on each piano.

Du Kích Sông Thao was written in 1948 when the composer and his comrades escaped from Sơn La Prison.

During the escape, he remembers people helping him to complete the task including a small girl. She has a mission to sail a boat carrying soldiers across the river. He was inspired by her to write the song.

“This song, Trường Ca Sông Lô (Lô River Epic) and Người Hà Nội (Hanoian) go beyond the influence of other songs,” said Đỗ Hồng Quân, chairman of Việt Nam Musicians Association.

“They have historical significance encouraging young people to go into battle. It was also great contributions of the musicians during the national resistance.

“The appearance of these songs was new to Việt Nam’s music scene at that time.”

The concert is co-held by MaySpace Music Academy, Việt Nam National Academy of Music and Khăn Ấm Cho Em (Warm Scarf) Fund since 2017 to raise money for children in the mountainous and remote areas.

Clarinetist Pavtchinsky is a solo, chamber and orchestral musician. From 2015 until 2017 he was artistically engaged with the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.

He also collaborates regularly with the Brussels Philharmonic. He is Principal Clarinet with the newly founded Vietnamese Sun Symphony Orchestra in 2018.

Pianist Lee graduated from Kyungwon University and Piano Performance and Pedagogy in University of Oregon.

Tickets are priced from VNĐ300,000 (US$12) and can be bought at https://khanamchoem.vn/dang-ky-mua-ve-dem-hoa-nhac-tu-thien or calls telephone number 0868120399 or 0384585195.
