HCM CITY – An exhibition celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory is opening at Nguyễn Huệ Pedestrian Street in HCM City’s District 1.

The exhibition showcases 97 photos and documents reflecting strategic tactics and decisions of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, President Hồ Chí Minh, General Võ Nguyên Giáp, and the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign Command that led to the victory of Điện Biên Phủ on May 7, 1954.

The photos depict fierce battles at historical places such as Him Lam Hill, where the first battle of the Điện Biên Phủ Offensive occurred on March 13, 1954, along with Độc Lập Hill, A1 Hill, and Mường Thanh Airport.

The images highlight the patriotism, bravery, and solidarity of soldiers, youth volunteer force, and people in the resistance war.

The works also feature the development of Điện Biên Province, and the cooperation between the province and HCM City in fields of economy, society, and culture.

Trần Thế Thuận, Director of the city Department of Culture and Sports, said at the exhibition’s opening ceremony on Friday morning that the Điện Biên Phủ Victory is a brilliant milestone in the history of Việt Nam, an immortal epic of the Vietnamese people’s war, and a victory of resistance war and military strategy of the Party Committee led by President Hồ Chí Minh.

He added the victory reflects the solidarity, hardship and sacrifices of Vietnamese people and strong support of peace-loving people worldwide.

In addition, the city is launching an art photo exhibition titled “Sắc Màu Văn Hoá – Du Lịch Tây Bắc” (The Colours of Culture and Tourism in the North-western Region) on Đồng Khởi Street in District 1.

The exhibition displays 55 photos depicting the beautiful landscapes, historical sites, and tourism destinations of the north-western provinces of Điện Biên, Hòa Bình, Sơn La, Lai Châu, Lào Cai, and Yên Bái.

The two exhibitions in HCM City remain open until May 12.
