CẦN THƠ – The Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Cần Thơ office on Wednesday launched a start-up hub for the Mekong delta in the city.
The hub has 15 founders including VCCI Cần Thơ and planning and investment departments of the 12 Mekong delta provinces and Cần Thơ.
Võ Hùng Dũng, director of VCCI Cần Thơ, said developing start-ups to boost economic growth is a global trend.
By adopting the Silicon Valley model from the US, the delta is expected to become a start-up hub with a focus on using technology to boost agriculture production and food processing, he added.
Cần Thơ, with its good technical infrastructure, could play a leading role in enhancing the use of IT to nurture new sectors such as renewable energy and high-tech agriculture.
Earlier VCCI Cần Thơ had launched a programme called Mekong Startup to encourage start-up activities in the delta.
The programme held its the first start-up competition last September, with 60 groups taking part.—VNS
