HÀ NỘI — American team BIP came from behind to win the Group B opener of the VTV9 Bình Điền Cup volleyball tournament at Quảng Nam Province’s Gymnasium on Sunday.

BIP won 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 against Vietinbank of Việt Nam.

The American team now ranks first in the group and will meet Almaty of Kazakhstan in the next game on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Almaty also took part in their first match which they lost 17-25, 18-25, 25-9, 28-26, 9-15 to Jiangshu of China.

The Chinese club will next play Vietinbank.

Earlier on Saturday, VTV Bình Điền Long An beat Est Cola of Thailand 27-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-19 in the Group A match.

On the other hand, Vietnamese club Thông Tin LienVietPostBank lost 29-27, 24-26, 25-23, 21-25, 19-25 to China’s Fujian.

The second-round match will be organised this afternoon. VTV Bình Điền Long An will play against Fujian, while Thông Tin LienVietPostBank will face Est Cola.

VTV Bình Điền is an annual tournament. This year, the winners will walk away with US$15,000, while sideline awards will be delivered to outstanding players.

The final is scheduled on May 20. — VNS
