HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam will win at least a silver medal at the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championship, which is currently on in Sweden.

Việt Nam’s top athlete Nguyễn Trần Duy Nhất defeated Jaffar Al-Qashaamai of the host nation 2-1 in a close semi-final match over three rounds in the senior men’s 60kg category. The match took place on Wednesday in Jonkoping City.

The Vietnamese fighter pressed forward very strongly in the second round, using his teep-kick to good effect, in spite of Al-Qashaamai’s best efforts at defence.

Việt Nam’s Nguyễn Thị Thanh Trúc will fight Tessa Kakkonen of Finland in the semi-final match of the women’s 48kg pool on day eight of the tournament today.

Her teammate Bùi Yến Ly will compete against Johanna Rydberg of the host nation in the women’s 51kg semi-finals. — VNS
