HÀ NỘI — The VTV9 - Bình Điền International Women's Volleyball Tournament has been cancelled due to the fears of spreading novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the event’s organising board has announced.

The event had previously been scheduled to take place in the Central Highlands province of Đắk Lắk on May 16-24. However, it has now been pushed back to 2021.

According to the head of the organising board Lâm Văn Tư, to ensure the health of the community and strictly obey the Prime Minister's instructions, the 14th tournament has to be temporarily suspended.

The competition organisers have subsequently received the acceptance of foreign invitees from the United States, Canada, Kazakhstan, China and Japan, all of whom agree with the delay, whilst pledging to keep a close eye on any future developments of the disease before setting a fresh date.

Earlier, the LienVietPostBank International Women’s Volleyball Tournament was also delayed because of the epidemic.

Meanwhile, the Việt Nam Volleyball Federation is considering organising the National Volleyball Championship 2020 later this month or postponing it. — VNS
