BẮC GIANG — Vietnamese Women's Grandmaster Võ Thị Kim Phụng took the lead of the women’s standard category at the fourth ASEAN Chess Championship in the northern province of Bắc Giang on Monday.
After five rounds, Phụng has 4.5 points, followed by Nguyễn Thị Thanh An and Đổng Khánh Linh with four points and three points, respectively.
Phụng will next face her compatriot Nguyễn Thị Thanh An, while Linh will take on Frayna Janelle Mae of the Philippines.
On the men’s side, Bersamina Paulo of the Philippines is top with 4.5 points, followed by Vietnamese players Lê Tuấn Minh and Nguyễn Quốc Huy.
In the sixth match, Paulo willl face Minh, while Huy will battle it out with Dương Thế Anh.
The event has gathered top players from Việt Nam, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia and the Philippines, competing for the women’s and men’s individual titles in the blitz, rapid and standard chess categories.
The event is organised by the National Sports Administration, the Việt Nam Chess Federation and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
