THỪA THIÊN-HUẾ — Rescue forces on Wednesday afternoon took 18 people trapped by a landslide at Rào Trăng 4 Hydropower Plant to hospital.
They also removed the body of one person who had died at the plant in Phong Xuân Commune, Phong Điền District, the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế.
The rescue mission at the plant and the nearby Rào Trăng 3 Hydropower Plant continues, where considerable number of workers still trapped and feared dead, as about 40 workers have luckily escaped the landslide hit and crossed over to the now isolated Rào Trang 4, authorities reported on Wednesday.
The patients were brought to the Military Hospital 268 and Phong Điền General Hospital.
The Thừa Thiên-Huế Provincial Police used canoes to cross the Hương Điền hydropower reservoir in Hương Bình Commune, Phong Điền District to reach the workers at the Rào Trăng 4 Hydropower Plant to bring them provisions.
At Wednesday noon, another rescue team accessed a forest ranger station where 13 members of a rescue party made up of soldiers who also got hit by landslide on their way to Rào Trăng 3 are missing. They are searching for the victims, including the use of sniffer dogs.
Air Force and Air Defence on Wednesday morning deployed helicopter Mi-171E departing from Phú Bài Airport to drop food, medicine, supplies for people in distress.
Major General Phạm Trường Sơn, deputy commander of the Air Force and Air Defense, said if the weather conditions were favourable, a second flight to Rào Trăng 3 Hydropower Plant would be carried out on Wednesday afternoon. — VNS
