HCM CITY — A scrap collector who found a handbag containing VNĐ84.5 million (US$3,600) in cash turned it over to the police on Sunday, according to Tháp Mười District police in Đồng Tháp Province.
Police said that on Sunday Bùi Thị Nhỡ found the handbag which contained two watches, many identification papers, and the cash.
Nhỡ turned over the bag to the Tháp Mười District’s police, who found the owner of the handbag after an investigation.
Nhỡ works as a hired labourer and collects scrap to support her family.
In a similar case, Đồng Nai Province, the provincial Committee for Emulation and Rewards awarded Thạch Thị Tha, 48, a certificate of merit and VNĐ7 million ($300) for turning over a packet of money containing VNĐ100 million($4,290) she had found on the floor of a traditional wet market.
Vy Vũ Hồng Thảo, head of the provincial Committee for Emulation and Rewards, said Tha does charity work at the local pagoda and volunteers to take care of a boy with congenital heart disease.
The police said they found the owner of the cash after an investigation and returned the money to her. — VNS
