KUALA LUMPUR — The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia is working with local authorised agencies to verify the information that 23 Vietnamese fishermen were allegedly arrested for illegal fishing in Malaysia’s territorial waters.
On Monday, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) informed about the arrest of the fishermen. According to MMEA, the fishermen, aged between 23-64, had been detained offshore, about 68 nautical miles from Kuala Tok Bali of Kelantan state when they were using nets on two boats for fishing.
Malaysia’s relevant forces also seized all seafood worth about MYR2.5 million (about VNĐ13 billion) on the two boats. — VNS
