HCM CITY — Three more people in HCM City tested positive for Zika, taking the number of victims so far to 38, according to the local Department of Health.
At a meeting of the city steering board on prevention of Zika and dengue fever held on Monday, the department’s Dr Nguyễn Hữu Hưng said the three cases were reported from districts 2 and Bình Thạnh, which had the highest number of cases in the city.
The disease had been reported in 13 out of the 24 districts, Hưng said.
Of five pregnant women who contracted the disease, one had just delivered a child, he said, adding that the newborn does not have the abnormally small head, or microcephaly, caused by the virus.
Health officials were monitoring the baby, he said.
The other pregnant women were also under surveillance, he added.
People’s Committee deputy chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Thu told local authorities and health officials to continue to carry out preventive methods against Zika virus.
Many districts such as 4, 7, 9, 12 and Hóc Môn still suffer from poor environmental hygiene. —VNS
