LẠNG SƠN — The construction of Kỳ Cùng Bridge in Lạng Sơn City began on Thursday. The bridge, which is being built by the Lạng Sơn People’s Committee, will replace Kỳ Lừa Bridge.

The new bridge, which will be part of the Thành Pagoda-Kỳ Lừa Bridge-Bãi Đá relic route, will be 21m wide and will cost around VNĐ405 billion (US$18 million). It is expected to be ready in June 2018.

The old Kỳ Lừa Bridge was inaugurated in 1987 and became a popular tourism spot in Lạng Sơn Province. Bãi Đá is one of the most famous relics in the province. However, the bridge has become rundown, is narrow and has limited space, as a result of which there are traffic jams during peak hours. It can no longer handle all the traffic generated by tourism and other socio-economic activities of the province, the Lạng Sơn People’s Committee had said.

On September 21, the committee approved the project to construct a new bridge and name it Kỳ Cùng. — VNS
