School students get scholarships from Keimyung University

ĐÀ NẴNG — Scholarships worth US$15,000 from Daegu-based Keimyung University were awarded to the best 30 school students in Đà Nẵng City in the 2023-24 school year, marking the progressive cooperation and friendship between the two cities.

Kim Seon Jung, Vice president for international affairs of Keimyung University, said it’s the first ever scholarships from the university awarded to students outside of South Korea, and Việt Nam was the second country after Pakistan to benefit from the university’s scholarship fund.

She said about 800 Vietnamese students are studying at the university, and the scholarship programme for Vietnamese school students would continue in the coming years.

Deputy director of the city’s foreign affairs department Nguyễn Thị Thúy Anh said cooperative activities and exchange programmes between Đà Nẵng and Daegu have been boosted since the two cities inked a friendship deal in 2004.

The scholarship awards event was one of a series of exchanges in culture, education and investment betweenf Đà Nẵng and Daegu in the past two decades, Anh said.

Daegu City supported Đà Nẵng in green and smart urban management, disaster prevention, search and rescue and resilience to climate change.

Tourists from South Korea contributes the largest segment of foreign tourist arrivals to Đà Nẵng in 2023, with more than 1 million Korean tourists visiting the city – nearly 63 per cent of total international visitors – in three-quarters of 2023.

There are four direct air routes connecting Đà Nẵng and Incheon, Daegu, Busan and Cheongju, Korea with 120 flights per week. VNS
