- PFI to launch new technologies that significantly improveconception rates
SINGAPORE - Media OutReach - 25 October 2018 - In response to the growing Asian demand for assistedreproductive medical services, Pacific Fertility Institutes (PFI) officiallylaunched its 11th medical centre Pacific Fertility Institutes Medical Clinic(PFIMC), and the first in Singapore, at Royal Square @ Novena, Level 8.
In conjunction with thelaunch, Mr. Dee Zhang, Chief Operation Officer of PFIMC, introduced thecutting-edge EmbryoScope+ technology, a time-lapse incubator that enablesdoctors to visualise embryo development within the stable environment of theembryo incubator. Currently the only IVF center equipped with this technologyin Singapore, the time-lapse (TL) technology monitors embryo development andallows embryologists to make a more accurate assessment when selectingembryo(s) with the highest potential for implantation. TL imaging will beespecially useful for women with a large number of eggs but have failed toachieve pregnancy in previous IVF attempts and those of an older reproductiveage.
PFIMC also prides itself asthe first IVF clinic in Singapore to be equipped with XILTRIX in itslaboratory, a real-time continuous monitoring and alarm system that minimisesany adverse events that may affect culture and storage conditions within theembryology laboratory and cryo- room. With this technology, patients can beassured about the safety of their eggs and embryos stored with the facility.
"With a long-standing reputation for having a safe, advanced and holistic healthcare industry, and recognised as the top country in2017 for regional medical tourism, the decision to bring PFI to Singapore wasan easy, and logical one. We believe that our state-of-the-art technologies andextraordinary medical professionals will make PFI an attractive choice for couplesaround the region seeking assisted reproductive services." said Mr. Zhang.
Declining Fertility and Birth Rates inSoutheast Asia
According to the World HealthOrganization, infertility and subfertility issues affect a significantproportion of humanity, and this number stands at one in every four couples ofchild-bearing age.[1] Thisproblem of ultra-low fertility is strikingly evident in many Asian countrieslike Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.[2]
"Manywomen in modern age Asia choose only to embrace motherhood at a later age, asthey place more emphasis on career development and further education beforesettling down with the right partner. Furthermore, childbirth before marriageis considered a social anomaly in Asian culture.
"Unfortunately, age is the major cause of fertility problems in women, but with improvingpregnancy success rates, better awareness and increased affordability ofassisted reproductive services, a growing number of women are turning tomedical help to conceive and fulfil their dreams of starting a family,"continued Mr. Zhang.
Raising Birth Rates through Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART)
Birthrates have seen a decline in every age group of women except for one: women intheir 40s.[3] Whilemost babies are born to women in their 20s and 30s, the growing trend of oldermothers reflects a long-term shift to delayed childbearing. To address thistrend, PFI has committed itself to providing professional and comprehensivemedical services to couples who experience infertility issues, especiallyamongst women who are past prime childbearing age.
Ultimately, through the continued expansion of its professional network worldwide, as wellas close collaboration with other IVF experts, PFIMC aims to carve a strongfooting in the industry and to serve the local population as well asinternational patients whose issues could not be successfully addressedlocally.
