HCM CITY – The HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera will present the premiere of the contemporary dance Ru Đêm (Night Lullaby), choreographed by Nguyễn Phúc Hùng, Nguyễn Phúc Hải and Sùng A Lùng, at the Opera House on June 18.

The piece reflects the inner feeling of a homosexual man, his passion for love and dance, and his loneliness in life.

The dance was first choreographed and performed by Lùng in the 2016 National Young Choreographer Talent Competition, and helped him to win a Gold Medal.

Ru Đêm features my own story and my own nature,” said Lùng, a native of Lai Châu Province.

The work inspired the choreographers Hải and Hùng who worked with Lùng to add moves and put more feeling into the piece.

“The new version of Ru Đêm will feature not only a person’s feelings, but also a mother’s love,” said Hải, head of the HBSO Ballet.

He added that the new piece would also focus on the challenges of homosexual love.

The performance will feature dancers Lùng, Phan Tiểu Ly and Phan Thái Bình.

Young poet Chinh Ba will be the story’s narrator.

Ru Đêm is the latest contemporary dance presented by HBSO’s young and talented choreograpghers Hải and Hùng since their first piece Những Mảnh Ghép Của Giấc Mơ (Dream Puzzles) in 2012.

The performance received warm welcome from local and foreign audiences.

Since then, they have choreographed and performed many dance pieces like Anh Em (Brother), Zig Zag, Chuyển (Motion), Chạm Tay Vào Quá Khứ (Touching the Past), and Đi Qua Tình Yêu (Gone Through Love). VNS
