HCM CITY — Veteran theatre director and comedian Minh Nhí, in co-operation with his partners, has opened the Trương Hùng Minh Drama Troupe in HCM City. 

The troupe offers drama and musical shows, and stand-up comedy performances aimed at young people. Their art features social issues such as friendship, family and love.

It attracts veteran artists such as People’s Artist and theatre director Trần Ngọc Giàu, Meritorious Artist Công Ninh and choreographer Hải Âu. 

Young actors from art schools are also featured.

“We have received many congratulations as well as encouragement from the city’s Theatre Artists’ Association and our fans,” said the troupe’s founder and art director Nhí, who has more than 30 years in the industry. 

“Our theatre will provide young people with new concepts and techniques in drama. We will also introduce stand-up comedy to bring laughter and meaningful life lessons to audiences.”

 Nhí has been involved in stand-up comedy since the 1990s. 

He studied at the HCM City College of Theatre & Cinematography (now HCM City University of Theatre & Cinematography) and improved his skills under the instruction of famous artists of leading State-owned theatres. 

He has directed and performed in many plays and TV shows. 

He works as a lecturer for art schools and leading theatres, including the IDECAF Drama Stage and 5B Small Theatre. Many of his students became theatre stars, such as Tiết Cương, Hạnh Thúy and Việt Hương. 

“I hope my actors will develop their professional careers and our troupe will become a place for young people to enjoy Vietnamese drama in a unique way," said Nhí.  

New shows by young artists from the Trương Hùng Minh Drama Troupe are staged every weekend night at 22 Vĩnh Viễn Street, District 10. — VNS
