NINH THUẬN — Ninh Thuận Province’s Department of Science and Technology on Tuesday announced a plan to attach geographical information on Ninh Thuận lamb.
Geographical indications on Ninh Thuận lamb would include native and hybrid sheep that have been raised in the province. The products would be fresh or frozen.
Phạm Thanh Hưng, head of the department’s Technology Management Department, said that the use of geographical indications would help protect the origin of local lamb and raise the competitiveness of lamb products.
Ninh Thuận Province has a dry climate all year round with low humidity, which is suitable for raising sheep. Sheep graze naturally and the meat is known for being lean and high in nutritious value.
There are 860,000 sheep in the province. Lamb is primarily consumed in HCM City and Đồng Nai, Bình Dương, Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu, Ninh Bình, Hải Dương and Nam Định provinces. — VNS
