HÀ NỘI — A trade fair for safe agricultural, forestry and aquatic products from Hà Nội and nearby provinces opened on Thursday’s evening at Big C Thăng Long supermarket.

Organised by Hà Nội Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the annual event hosted over 50 booths displaying a variety of local goods, including OCOP (One Commune, One Product) specialties and regional favourites, promoting quality products from across the region.

Deputy Director of Hà Nội Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyễn Đình Hoa said that Hà Nội's agricultural sector involves over 70,000 facilities in food production, processing and sales. More than 1,700 facilities specialise in advanced processing, while 250 businesses export their products. Hà Nội’s OCOP products represent about 20 per cent of the national total, with over 2,700 certified items.

While the city mainly meets demand for poultry and eggs, it relies on additional supplies from other regions to cover around 20 to 70 per cent of other agricultural needs for its ten million inhabitants, plus international visitors. To meet the demand, Hà Nội supplements local products with goods from other provinces and imports, distributed through a broad network of supermarkets, shopping centres, OCOP stores, and online platforms, Hoa said.

The fair, running until October 27, is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Quality Control Department and Central Retail. Alongside product displays, the event offers food safety consultations and provides opportunities for businesses to network and form partnerships to expand their distribution channels. — VNS
