HÀ NỘI —Bài chòi performances (a traditional Vietnamese game combining folklore singing and picks from a deck of card) will be organised for locals and tourists in Đà Nẵng on a pilot basis between April and June.
Bài chòi, which combines the word bài (a deck of cards) and chòi (bamboo hut), has various range of performance styles: folk songs, poem-singing, acting, storytelling and music performed on traditional instruments.
The city’s Culture Centre will hold bài chòi between 5pm and 9.30pm on Saturday and Sunday on the pavement of Trần Hưng Đạo Street at the Rồng Bridge in Sơn Trà District.
It is said that feudal mandarin Đào Duy Từ (1571-1643) invented bài chòi to entertain people during holidays. Bài chòi is popular in the central region. –VNS
