HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam finished second in the World Team Table Tennis Championships’ third division in Halmstad, Sweden, on Saturday.

The Southeast Asian representative lost 0-3 to Lithuania in the final match.

Đoàn Bá Tuấn Anh was defeated 1-3 by Medardas Stankevicius, Nguyễn Anh Tú lost 0-3 to Tomas Mikutis and Đinh Quang Linh was beaten 2-3 by Rimas Lesiv.

With their victory, Việt Nam earned a berth in the second division next season, as well as a higher world ranking, which will be released next month.

Earlier in their tournament, Việt Nam overcame Israel 3-1 in the semi-finals and Finland 3-1 in the quarter-finals, after finishing third in the group stage. — VNS
