 International Master (IM), Trần Minh Thắng, of Việt Nam won his first match at the World Junior and Girls U20 Chess Championship in Italy on Thursday.

HÀ NỘI — International Master (IM), Trần Minh Thắng, of Việt Nam won his first match at the World Junior and Girls U20 Chess Championship in Italy on Thursday.

Thắng defeated Juan Heinechen of Paraguay in the fourth round match. The Vietnamese now has 1.5 points, and will play Filip Pavic of Croatia in the next round.

Grandmaster (GM), Trần Tuấn Minh, grabbed a draw against IM, Paulo Bersamina, of the Philippines.

Minh who is the No 22 seed pocketed 2.5 points to rank at No 41.

He will play IM, Antenaina Rakotomaharo Fy, of Madagascar. — VNS
