Huynh, Yến win gold medals in chess champs

HÀ NỘI — Lại Lý Huynh secured a second gold medal at the National Chinese Chess Team Championships, which concluded yesterday in Đà Nẵng City.
Bình Dương Province’s Huynh triumphed in the men’s rapid Chinese chess event with 7.5 points in nine matches, played in two days.

He was followed by Phí Minh Cường of Hà Nội, who had seven points, and Võ Minh Nhất from Bình Phước, with the same points but lower parameter.

Last week, Huynh pocketed his first gold in the blitz event.

On the women’s side, HCM City representative Nguyễn Hoàng Yến also made a double.

She won the rapid event yesterday with seven points. Earlier, she topped the standard event, which concluded on Sunday.

Her teammates Đàm Thị Thùy Dung and Ngô Lan Hương came second and third, respectively.

In the mixed doubles pool, Bình Định took their second title after winning the rapid event.

HCM City and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu were runners-up.

After 10 days of competitions, HCM City top the team’s medal tally with three gold, six silver and three bronze. Bình Dương are second and Bình Định are third. — VNS
