Lào Cai police arrest heroin traffickers

Police in the northern province of Lào Cai arrested two men on Saturday caught in possession of 8kg of heroin.

LÀO CAI — Police in the northern province of Lào Cai arrested two men on Saturday caught in possession of 8kg of heroin.

Giàng A Páo, 39, and Vàng A Pía, 36, from Điện Biên Province were arrested as they were delivering the heroin to a local hostel in Lào Cai Province’s Bản Phiệt Commune.

Phía admitted to police that he was hired by a foreigner to sell the drugs for VNĐ540 million per kilo (US$4,300).

Police in the northern province of Thanh Hoá also arrested a man on Friday afternoon for illegally storing 6,000 methamphetamine pills at his house in Mường Lát District’s Trung Lý Commune.

Giàng A Sự said he was paid VNĐ4 million ($175) to store the pills for a man from Laos for five months.

Border soldiers in the central province of Quảng Bình arrested a man for illegally trafficking nearly 48,000 methamphetamine pills from Laos to Việt Nam at an area near the Cha Lo International Border Gate.

Local police are investigating the case.— VNS
