THANH HÓA — Stormy weather hit the mountainous Thường Xuân District in the central province of Thanh Hóa on Tuesday evening, causing the collapse of an electrical pole and a 65-m-high base transceiver station (BTS).

The BTS fell down onto a house but, fortunately, no one was hurt. On Wednesday morning, the Thanh Hóa Telecommunication Company began removing the fallen BTS and arranged the installation of mobile transceiver equipment to ensure proper services for mobile phone subscribers in the area.

According to the district People’s Committee, the collapse of the electrical poles caused a power outage from Thường Xuân Town to the Bát Mọt border commune.

Power supply was not resumed until Wednesday morning.

The storm also blew roofs off 71 houses and the Thường Xuân Secondary School. It also damaged nearly 100 ha of crops, uprooted 650 trees in Thường Xuân District and surrounding communes. Landslides were reported on route from Thường Xuân Town to Ngọc Phụng Commune. — VNS
