LONG AN — A second lieutenant with the Long An Border Guards shot three people before turning the gun on himself on Saturday.

Tạ Quang Đạt, who had received treatment after showing signs of psychological disorder, injured two fellow soldiers and a member of the public after the random shooting spree near the Bình Hiệp Border Guards Station in Long An Province.

He then hid inside the station and as leaders tried to convince him to give himself up, he turned the gun on himself taking his own life.

The drama unfolded around 5pm, according to Nguyễn Văn Quan, political commissar of the Long An Border Guards Headquarters.

Captain Vũ Hào Hiệp, who was seriously wounded, later died in hospital.

Senior lieutenant Trần Minh Triết suffered an injury to his left leg and Phan Văn Lợi to the right thigh. Both of  them being treated at the provincial hospital. — VNS
