HÀ NỘI — Nearly 700 blood units were donated by over 1,500 volunteers during the tenth “Red Sunday”, held on Sunday at Hồng Đức University in the central province of Thanh Hóa.

"Red Sunday" is a annual blood donation event that has been held in Việt Nam since 2009.

The same day, in Vinh City in neighbouring Nghệ An province, the event engaged more than 1,000 officials and youth union members. Nearly 1,000 blood units were expected to be collected during the day at the site.
Last year, youth in Nghe An organised more than 60 voluntary blood donation events and obtained 29,510 blood units.
One day earlier, hundreds of youth union members and young people in the southern province of Đồng Nai attended the local event and donated more than 360 blood units. This was the second time a “Red Sunday” blood donation day had been held in the province.
“Red Sunday” also attracted 500 students in the northern province of Yên Bái. The organising board gathered more than 160 blood units, which were transported to the National Institute for Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hà Nội for the needy. — VNS
