BÀ RỊA-VŨNG TÀU — The Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu Province customs on Monday set up a port control unit (PCU) that will link up with international counterparts to secure customs clearance and prevent smuggling and transport of prohibited goods.
PCUs typically use a risk management system.
The unit has nine customs officials headed by the deputy chief of the provincial customs department.
More than 50 countries have set up PCUs as part of the Container Control Programme of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the World Customs Organisation.
They help governments improve the efficiency of container control across ports and prevent trafficking of drugs, wildlife, weapons and other contraband. — VNS
