BÀ RỊA - VŨNG TÀU — A Chinese crewman suffering a stroke on board a Liberian-flagged AMIS STAR vessel has been successfully rescued in water off the southern coastal province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu by Vietnamese rescuers.

In the early morning of last Sunday (October 20), the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre Region 3 (MRCC3), located in the province’s Vũng Tàu city, received information that a crewman on the vessel, heading from Singapore to China, had suffered a serious stroke.

The vessel's captain contacted the centre to request the urgent evacuation of the crewman, Zhu Mingyue, 54, for medical treatment.

Upon receiving this information, the centre immediately got in touch with the HCM City-based Coastal Information Station to connect and guide the AMIS STAR vessel to move to waters near Vũng Tàu city for further assistance.

Under the urgent direction of the National Committee for Disaster Incident Response and Search and Rescue, the Ministry of Transport, and the Việt Nam Maritime Administration, the centre sent a specialised search-and-rescue ship SAR 413 carrying rescuers and doctors to the scene and collected the afflicted crewmember.

At around 6pm on the same day, the rescue ship SAR 413 found the AMIS STAR vessel, and the doctors gave first aid treatment to the crewmember on board.

Then, it successfully brought the victim ashore at its port in Vũng Tàu city, and sent him to the Franco-Vietnamese (FV) Hospital in HCM City for further treatment.

The centre has also saved a seaman from the Philippines after he was seriously ill on board the Palau-flagged SEA HERMES ship off the coast of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province on October 11. — VNS
