New COVID-19 cases top 2,500 on April 25, highest in half a year

Việt Nam recorded 2,501 new cases of COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, the highest daily number in the past over half a year, according to the Ministry of Health.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam recorded 2,501 new cases of COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, the highest daily number in the past over half a year, according to the Ministry of Health.

The total number of cases since the pandemic began rose to 11,549,186.

During the day, one patient died from COVID-19, raising the total fatalities so far to 43,188, or 0.4 per cent of the total logged infections.

Meanwhile, 819 patients were given the all clear, bringing the total recoveries to 10,618,138.

As many as 145 patients are in serious conditions needing breathing support.

Statistics of the health ministry showed the number of new COVID-19 cases has seen a surge over the past two weeks, and fatalities from the virus have also been recorded after four months in the clear.

The ministry required health departments of localities and medical establishments to intensify vaccination efforts.

To date, over 266 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide. — VNS
