HCM CITY – Children in HCM City orphaned by the COVID-19 outbreak recently got an opportunity to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival and received gifts.

On September 9 the Saigon Tourism Corporation (Saigontourist Group), Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper, the HCM City Youth Union, and district authorities organised a festival for them and poor children at Đầm Sen Cultural Park.

Some 500 kids had the opportunity to experience a lantern procession and eat moon cakes.

Children in first to sixth grades from poor families were also provided with scholarships and school supplies.

The event is an annual programme held in HCM City and the provinces of Bắc Kạn, Cao Bằng and Đắk Lắk by the sponsors, and Nguyễn Đông Hoà, deputy general director of the Saigontourist Group, said it had been held since 2006.

It normally targeted disadvantaged children living in remote and mountainous areas with difficult backgrounds. – VNS
