NEW DELHI — Việt Nam's Communist Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm visited India from May 5 to 7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At the Presidential Palace in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi and President Droupadi Murmu co-chaired a grand welcoming ceremony for General Secretary and President Lâm and the high-level Vietnamese delegation.

This marks the first time a Party General Secretary and President of Việt Nam has paid a state visit to India. The visit took place shortly after the conclusion of Việt Nam's 14th National Congress and the National Assembly’s consolidation of key leadership positions.

This reflects Việt Nam’s high regard for India, a close friend and comprehensive strategic partner.

The visit also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

India was among the first three nations with which Việt Nam established such a partnership. Over the past decade, bilateral relations have expanded in both depth and scope, while significant potential for further cooperation remains.

Amid strong development in both countries and profound changes in the regional and global landscape, the visit provided an opportunity for the two countries’ leaders to shape cooperation for a new phase of development. VNS
